The names for groups of animals has always fascinated me. Most people are familiar with some of the more common ones, like a pride of lions or a pod of whales, but there is also a "Parliament of Owls" and a "Murder of Crows." It is this last description that inspired my most recent painting.
For me, combining the words, "A Murder of Crows," conjures a range of intriguing possibilities.
Thought of as the trickster character in many folk traditions, it seemed appropriate that this particular group of corvids would meet in a dark, fog enshrouded alley, where they would huddle around their carpet bag of lethal tricks and become "A Murder of Crows." --SG
